A Year With the BSC #6: BSC Day Camp

In which it's time for the Pike's annual trip to Sea City!

It must be Camp Week in Stoneybrook, because that was the topic du jour this week. But first, a little story from Mary Anne.

July 24, 2018: So many things embarrass me. When I got to the movies with Logan, I cry so much at the sad parts that I have to blow my nose. That embarrasses me! -Mary Anne

What if a movie doesn’t have a sad part? She’d probably find something to cry about. She feels things. Keep those feelings, Mary Anne. I was a sensitive kid, also. I was so sensitive that the other kids made fun of me. One day, I decided the way to get them to stop making fun of me was to stop being so sensitive. The kids found something else to teach me about, and now I don’t feel anything besides anger.

Anyway, Mallory is excited for the annual Pike family trip to Sea City.

July 26, 2018: Guess what? It’s almost time for the Pike trip to Sea City, New Jersey! Trampoline Land, here I come! Abby and Stacey are coming along with us. I wish Jessi could come too. But she’s got ballet school. Some of my best memories are about the beach. What about you? -Mallory

I said it once during my review of Boy-Crazy Stacey, and I’ll say it again: Mr. Pike must be in the mob. How can he afford an annual trip to Sea City, complete with a beach house for him, his wife, his seven children, and 24-hour babysitting fees? Unless Stoneybrook is the center of the East Coast Tech Boom, akin to Cupertino, the only way to explain his income is illegal activity. I also wonder if Stoenybrook has enough crime to support a thriving mafia underground. His quiet life in Stoneybrook must be a cover for his true job in Providence, Rhode Island. That’s it. That’s why they need so much babysitting - the commute must be a bitch.

July 28, 2018: I think my favorite summer memories are from Camp Mohawk. Remember when we were scared that there was an escaped convict on the loose near camp? That was scarier than the stories we used to make up about Mrs. Means, the camp director. Does anybody else have some camp memories? -Kristy

This entry is clearly referencing a BSC book that I haven’t reread yet.* I’ll be sure to mention that when I get to the book. I’m surprised they haven’t mentioned the kids’ day camp that the BSC started in Kristy’s Big Day. Or the day camp they start in Mary Anne and Camp BSC. Or the day camp they start in The Baby-Sitters Club: The Movie.
