A Year With the BSC #4: Happy Birthday, Claudia!

It looks like Dawn is back from California.

July 10, 2018: I can’t believe I’m back. It’s good to write in the BSC Journal again. The plane ride was great. Then it was really great when you guys met me at the airport! Have you ever been on a plane? -Dawn

Dawn, I don’t really want to discuss my airplane experience. I’m more interested in why the plane ride was “great.” No plane ride has ever been “great” since the chairs stopped lining up with the windows. You know why they don’t line up, right, Dawn?

July 12th is Claudia’s birthday, and the BSC gives her a sweet gift.

July 12, 2018: Yesturday was my best birth day ever. I can’t beleave you guys! Te kwilted vest is beautiful. A Friendship Kwilt Vest. Each patch is something I like. I love the candy patch. And the one that looks like sparklee earings. And the paint brush! And to think that everre patch in the vest was sown by my very best friends in the world! Thanx again, guys! -Love, Claudia

That’s adorable and warms this old bitch’s heart. Even I am like, “Yeah, that sounds like something I’d like. It’s personalized, and it will keep me warm.” Personalization and mild warmth - two things I like! Hey! You already have two patches!

But the Claudia Birthday Celebration has to end, and she asks Kristy to babysit Rose Wilder for her.

July 13, 2018: Kristy, thanx for saying you can sit for Rosie Wilder tomorow night. I have to study for a sience test. Summer scool can be a pain. -Claudia

Poor Claudia, but if you can’t spell “school,” you should probably be in a summer one. I’m sure Kristy is happy to take the job, but Claudia owes Kristy. Not just because it allows Claudia to study, but also because this babysitting job sounds insufferable.

July 15, 2018: Boy, you sure don’t need a Kid-Kit for Rosie. She met me at the door with a whole bunch of books - remember the ones about the twelve little girls who live in Paris? Anyway, Rosie said that since yesterday was Bastille Day, we should do everything French. So we read all the books and made Onion Soup. Oh revwar. (Rosie says that means good-bye in French.) -Kristy

Yeah, the title of that book is Madeline. It’s the name of one of those twelve little girls, the main character, and you read it yesterday. I realize that it’s summer vacation, but that doesn’t mean you should allow your brain to atrophy over fourteen hours. You read all the books. And made Onion Soup - the one dish the French are famous for, because when I think of the French, I think of Onion Soup. Escargot, canapes, and those little pastry sandwiches never come to mind. I guess Onion Soup is more accessible to a child. That doesn’t excuse Kristy’s memory. I’m worried, Kristy. You’re too young to be experiencing memory loss.
